With colour experts Pantone describing the exotic and alluring hue of Sangria as one of Fall 2014’s top shades, I must admit that I’m ecstatic for a breathtaking season of bold colours and sharp styles ahead. While summer is always a fun fashion season with flowing maxi skirts, floral print sundresses, and statement sunglasses, the excitement of autumn looks always paves the way for upcoming trends.
If you’re debating when to finally put away your favourite printed dress or strapless jumpsuit for the season, try incorporating a pair of this season’s “statement tights” into your look, or even adding a fierce solid pair of stockings in a rich burgundy shade for an extra layer. Swap your sheer cardigan for a two-tone wrap-style blazer, and switch up your hot pink wedges for a chunky neutral pair of Oxford-style heels instead.
Here are a few exciting trends for fall and some ways that I will be including these essentials into my fall wardrobe:
Fabulous Furs: With Fall 2014 runway trends pointing in the direction of luxurious furs and soft shearling, I’m personally looking forward to wrapping up in the comfort of faux fur as the temperature drops. While there’s no need to step out in a full-length fur for a simple weekend afternoon of raking leaves, you can always channel your inner diva with statement outerwear! Try a dark brown leather jacket trimmed with shearling fur, paired with chic dark wash denim and ankle boots for the ultimate Saturday look.
Mix and Match Shades: Whether it’s a pop of magenta or dark pink against basic black, or a more unconventional colour combo like electric blue paired with neon orange, Fall 2014 is the perfect time to experiment with unlikely shades. There’s no reason to put aside your favourite summer tones, as I plan to embrace colour throughout the season. If you’re looking for ways to downplay a neon hue, try combining it with neutral accessories or footwear.
Oversized Knits and Textured Sweaters: Whether it’s a sweater dress with a touch of metallic detail or a flowing knit wrap perfect for throwing over a sleeveless dress as we step in September, oversized knits are set to become a must-have. Look for boyfriend fits which aren’t overly baggy, neutral shades to toss over fall’s bright colours, and chic cashmere designs.
1960s Inspired Charm: If you’ve been a fan of Mad Men over the seasons, fall 2014 is the perfect moment to take a trip back in time to the 1960s. With A-line mod-style dresses, flowing casual frocks, snakeskin boots, and chic pantsuits on the radar, try to include a touch of the ‘60s with an updated twist in your fall wardrobe!
